Address of Beneficiary:
Basti Sulkani UC Sahu Wala Tehsil Karor District Layyah
Situation Overview:
Union Council Sahu wala of Tehsil Karor District Layyah is one of the most deprived union councils. It was hit by a flood and most of the infrastructure is now damaged. The local community has limited access to public services and the majority of the population lives below the poverty line.
Access to safe drinking water:
Many challenges and problems persist regarding the situation of water and sanitation in the target area. The main sources of drinking water are hand pumps, electric motor pumps and tube wells. The major problem is due to poverty and a lack of resources. The majority of locals are unable to install hand pumps in their homes for drawing underground water ultimately limiting their access to drinking water. There are also very few hand pumps in public/communal places where people can access water easily.
How it was carried out:
The village was identified through an assessment in the area and consequently, local community members formed a Village Water Committee. Village Water Committee (VWC) supported the team in site identification and with consultation agreed on this site for the installation of the shallow hand pump. Installation of shallow hand pump was completed and work at site was supervised by Muslim Aid Field team and Village Water Committee member where shallow hand pump was handed over to care taker. This installation has reduced the burden of water collecting on children and women and has provided access to safe drinking water for daily use.
In this project they installed hand pump in front of our house. Our children faced many difficulties in collecting water and then they always suffered in abdominal pain due to unsafe water. But now they are happy because water is at door step.
